Educational background: BS in Music Education from University of Vermont; MM in Oboe Performance from NE Conservatory of Music; GD in Oboe Performance from NE Conservatory of Music

Personal Information (family, pets, kids, etc.): Husband – Robinson Pyle, Cat – Sam

How did you get started in music? I began piano lessons in second grade, started flute in fifth grade, and began studying oboe with (PSO principal oboist) Neil Boyer at age 18.

What non-PSO musical activities do you participate in? Knitting, biking, reading, and travel

What’s your favorite PSO memory to date? The camel with Judy and Ray during Magic of Christmas.

Describe a typical day: Wake at 5:15, leave for school at 6:15. Teach elementary band and then general music for the remainder of the school day.

What is the question you’re asked most often when you tell people you play with the PSO? Do you get paid?

If you couldn’t be a musician, what would be your dream job? A travel writer like Rick Steves.

Any non-musical hobbies? Knitting, biking, and gardening

What is your favorite music? What are you currently listening to? No particular favorites but I enjoy Peter, Paul and Mary, Elton John and John Williams.

Who or what has been your greatest influence, musical or otherwise? Neil Boyer. He taught me how to be a musician.

What/where are your favorite eats in Portland? Mims for Sunday brunch (now closed) and Walter’s
