Lisa Hennessy, Principal Flute

Where did you grow up? Pasadena, TX

Where do you currently live? Malden, MA

What instrument(s) do you play? Flute, piccolo, alto and bass flutes, piano

Educational background: BA in Music, summa cum laude, from University of Houston; MM, with academic honors and distinction in performance, from New England Conservatory

Personal Information (family, pets, kids, etc.): I am married to Lance Levasseur. We have two cats, and a baby on the way!

How did you get started in music? I come from a very musical family, and was naturally drawn to the piano by age 3. I started taking piano lessons at age 5, sang in the church choir, and started playing the flute when I was 12.

What non-PSO musical activities do you participate in? I am also a member of the Boston Landmarks Orchestra, and I frequently play with Boston Ballet, Boston Lyric Opera, Boston Philharmonic, and many other orchestras throughout New England. I also teach flute students, play at weddings, and just get together with friends to play music for fun when I have time.

Describe a typical day: One of the fun things about being a musician is that one work day is not identical to the next! On a given day, I could be rehearsing with a symphony, playing a quintet concert for school kids, recording a composer’s new piece of chamber music, playing duets with a student, etc. I enjoy that mix, and am grateful that I get to call this my “job!”

If you couldn’t be a musician, what would be your dream job? I have never been able to imagine I’d enjoy any other job more than being a musician.

Do you teach? If so, how can people get in touch with you? Yes! Email lisamhennessy@comcast.net

What/where are your favorite eats in Portland? 555, Fore Street, Local 188, Walter’s, Blue Spoon, Yosaku, Grace, Vignola, Street & Company, etc., etc…
