Lisa Hennessy, Principal Flute
Where do you currently live? Malden, MA
What instrument(s) do you play? Flute, piccolo, alto and bass flutes, piano
Educational background: BA in Music, summa cum laude, from University of Houston; MM, with academic honors and distinction in performance, from New England Conservatory
Personal Information (family, pets, kids, etc.): I live a hectic but very happy life with my husband, Lance Levasseur, our son Nathan and our two cats. I’m not great at multitasking, but I’m getting lots of opportunities to work on that lately.
How did you get started in music? I come from a very musical family, and was naturally drawn to the piano by age 3. I started taking piano lessons at age 5, sang in the church choir, and started playing the flute when I was 12.
What non-PSO musical activities do you participate in? I am also a member of the Boston Ballet Orchestra and the Boston Landmarks Orchestra, and I frequently play with Boston Lyric Opera, Boston Philharmonic, Rhode Island Philharmonic and many other orchestras throughout New England. I also play chamber music concerts, teach flute students, and play at weddings. And with my son, there is a fair amount of singing, drumming and dancing around my house.
Describe a typical day: One of the fun things about being a musician is that one work day is not identical to the next! On a given day, I could be rehearsing with a symphony, playing a quintet concert for school kids, recording a composer’s new piece of chamber music, playing duets with a student, etc. I enjoy that mix, and am grateful that I get to call this my “job!”
If you couldn’t be a musician, what would be your dream job? I have never been able to imagine I’d enjoy any other job more than being a musician.
Do you teach? If so, how can people get in touch with you? Yes! Email email@example.com
