KinderKonzerts Start in October with Strings: The Story of Abbie Burgess

PORTLAND, Maine – The Portland Symphony Orchestra’s (PSO) popular KinderKonzert series begins with the PSO’s newly commissioned work by composer Delvyn Case, inspired by the story of courageous Maine lighthouse keeper Abbie Burgess.

The KinderKonzert “Strings: The Story of Abbie Burgess” will be performed nearly two dozen times in eight towns in Maine beginning October 13. This new composition for the PSO String Quintet tells the true story of Abbie Burgess, painting a musical portrait of a raging storm and the brave young girl who kept the lighthouse burning against all odds.

KinderKonzerts are entertaining, interactive programs with Portland Symphony musicians and designed for kids ages 3 – 7. Attendees are encouraged to sing, dance, wiggle, clap, and have fun listening and learning about music and instruments. School systems can coordinate the KinderKonzert visit with Science and English Language Arts instruction in addition to Visual and Performing Arts.  Specially prepared worksheets designed to support Maine’s Learning Results are available online or by contacting the PSO.

Sponsored by Time Warner Cable, all Portland Symphony Orchestra KinderKonzert tickets are $4 per person. For additional information, reservations and ticketing information visit www.portlandsymphony.org or call (207) 773-6128.
