PORTLAND, Maine — The evening before a group of the area’s top interior designers begin the process of redesigning an historic Portland Tudor for the 2011 Portland Symphony Orchestra Designers’ Show House, the public is invited to tour the empty house and feast at a festive lobster bake presented by Bernie’s Foreside. The Empty House Party & Lobster Bake is scheduled for Wednesday, August 3 from 5:30-7:30 PM and costs $40 per person. The 2011 Designers’ Show House is located at 149 Western Promenade in Portland. Reservations are required and can be made by calling the PSO at 207-773-6128 x311, or emailing events@portlandsymphony.org.
The event is the first, last, and only opportunity the public has to view the “before” of the house prior to the Show House’s opening, completed, on September 10. The designers will redecorate nearly the entire house beginning on August 4, working over the course of the five weeks between the Empty House Party and the Gala Preview Party on September 9.
In addition to touring the empty house, guests will enjoy a selection of entrees and summer picnic sides, as well as beverages including beer, root beer, and lemonade. Guests will choose between lobster, chicken, and grilled vegetables; corn on the cob, coleslaw and potato salads, and blueberry cake and strawberry shortcake will also be provided.
The event is sponsored by The Hatcher Group/Keller Williams Realty, with the support of Bernie’s Foreside Restaurant, Shipyard Brewery, and Harmon’s and Barton’s/Sawyer & Company.
The Show House is the major fundraiser for the PSO and is orchestrated biennially at historically and architecturally significant properties in the greater Portland area. The Show House includes events throughout late summer and fall, including the Empty House Lobster Bake and the Great Gatsby-themed Gala Preview Party on September 9.
