PSO Presents Family-friendly Discovery Concert “Symphony Spooktacular” October 30

PORTLAND, Maine — The Portland Symphony Orchestra (PSO) presents a Halloween- themed “Discovery” concert filled with symphonic thrills and chills for the whole family. Symphony Spooktacular will take place Sunday, October 30, 2011 at 2:30pm at Merrill Auditorium. Kids and adults alike are encouraged to come in costume, and arrive early for pre-concert fun and games in the lobby including hands-on instrument petting zoos with PSO musicians.

Symphony Spooktacular features Music Director Robert Moody leading the PSO musicians (all in fun costumes) in Funeral March of a Marionette by Gounod, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice by Dukas, music from Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique, and The Chill of the Orchestra by American composer Russel Peck. Dancers from Portland Ballet will join in “Bella’s Lullaby” from Twilight and lead the entire audience in the zombie dance stylings of Michael Jackson’s Thriller.

Symphony Spooktacular is sponsored by TD Bank with additional support from the Sam L. Cohen Foundation, and by private funding from Sue and Jim Konkel. While kids of all ages may enjoy this event, those aged 8-13 will enjoy it most of all.

Tickets are $10, or $6 for groups of 10 or more, and are available through PortTIX.com, by phone at 207-842-0800 or at the box office at 20 Myrtle St. Box office hours are noon – 6 pm Monday through Saturday. All ticket prices include $2 handling fee ($1 for groups) and $2 Merrill Restoration fee
